چکیده

INTRODUCTION Using traditional experimental methodologies [1,2,3], the skin has to be separated from the subcutaneous tissues in order to determine the tissues’ viscoelastic properties. Thus, the complex collagen fiber network in soft tissue could be damaged when the skin is separated from the subcutaneous tissue. Therefore, the viscoelastic properties of the skin and subcutaneous tissues measured using isolated samples may be different from those in physiological conditions. The purpose of the present study is to estimate the viscous behaviors of the skin and the subcutaneous tissues using composite tissue specimens.

The Preconditioning and Stress Relaxation of Skin Tissue

This paper reports our recent study on the preconditioning effects and stress relaxation behaviour of fresh swine skin. Uniaxial cyclic tensile loading and stress relaxation tests were performed with swine skin samples in two different directions to study the effects of fibre direction on mechanical properties. With stress relaxation tests, skin samples were loaded to different strains to obser...

Measurement of Nonlinear-elastic Properties of Skin and Subcutaneous Tissues via Unconfined Compression Tests

INTRODUCTION Knowledge of the nonlinear-elastic properties of soft tissues is essential for the development of reliable finite element models for biological systems. The compressive nonlinear-elastic properties of soft tissues are usually determined using unconfined compression tests. To determine the nonlinearelastic behavior of skin and subcutaneous tissues using a conventional approach, the ...

A Nano-indentation Identification Technique for Viscoelastic Constitutive Characteristics of Periodontal Ligaments

Introduction: Nano-indentation has recently been employed as a powerful tool for determining the mechanical properties of biological tissues on nano and micro scales. A majority of soft biological tissues such as ligaments and tendons exhibit viscoelastic or time-dependent behaviors. The constitutive characterization of soft tissues is among very important subjects in clinical medicine and espe...

Prediction of viscoelastic and plastic properties of polymers using indentation

Indentation methodologies are gaining popularity as they provide means of local property estimation, utilize smaller sample sizes, and do not destroy specimens. Classically, indentation has been used to measure hardness and Young’s modulus [1], but researchers have also proposed ways of predicting stress–strain curves [2], yield strength [3], and fracture toughness [3]. Different indentation te...

The mechanical properties of porcine aortic valve tissues.

In uniaxial tensile experiments in vitro mechanical properties of the different parts of porcine aortic valves, i.e. the leaflets, the sinus wall and the aortic wall, have been dealt with. Tissue strips cut in different directions were investigated. The collagen bundles in the leaflets show a stiffening effect and cause a marked anisotropy: within the physiological range of strains the largest ...
